On the Path to Become a Charismatic Leader….

“Divinely inspired gift.” In the study of leadership, charisma is a special quality of

AM I DOING THE SAME?

Jane A. Halpert performed a statistical analysis of the effects charismatic leaders have on followers, and found that three dimensions are the most important. One key dimension is  others because of one’s desirable traits and characteristics. If we like a leader, he or she might be able to exercise referent power. Another dimension is  abilities. An important part of Steve Jobs’ charisma stems from his expert powers reflected in imagining and designing electronic devices such as the iMac and iPod.
A third dimension of charismatic leadership is the ability to get group members excited about their work, or to experience
 .
Job involvement is a key component of job satisfaction, and one empirical study has provided evidence of the relationship between charismatic leadership and job satisfaction.
The outstanding characteristic of charismatic leaders is that they are charismatic, and therefore they can attract, motivate, or lead others! They also have other distinguishing characteristics.
a) Charismatic leaders are
of where the organization is headed and how to get there.
b) Charismatic leaders also have
language and exciting metaphors and analogies.
c) Another key characteristic is the ability to inspire
d) Charismatic leaders have an energy and action orientation. Like entrepreneurs, most charismatic leaders are energetic and serve as role models forgetting things done on time. Emotional expressiveness and warmth are also notable.
e) A key characteristic of charismatic leaders is the ability to express
f) Another trait of charismatic leaders is that they romanticize
absence.
g) In addition to treasuring risk, charismatic leaders use unconventional strategies to achieve success. The charismatic leader
inspires others by formulating unusual strategies to achieve important goals.
h) A final strategy for becoming more charismatic leader is really an amalgam of the ideas already introduced: being
dramatic and unique in significant, positive ways is a major contributor to charisma.
I am walking through this path……coming across many mentors who are having all the above characteristics, I am admiring them and practicing all the skills to become a charismatic leader……are you?
visionary because they offer an exciting imagemasterful communication skills. To inspire people, the charismatic leader uses colorfultrust.feelings openly.Risk. They enjoy risk so much that they feel empty in its
Referent power, the ability to influenceExpert power, the ability to influence others because of one’s specialized knowledge, skills, or Job involvement

Charisma is a Greek word meaning leaders whose purposes, powers, and extraordinary determination differentiate them from others.
A case in point is Steve Jobs of Apple Inc. and Pixar, whose name surfaces frequently in discussions of charisma. Several years ago he was nominated Time magazine person of the year by an entertainment executive, and given this accolade: “He is a true visionary who continues to lead the technological revolution. Year after year, Apple creates must-have products that shape how we live our lives. Jobs and Apple continue to lead us into a wonderful new technological future.”
Charismatic leaders use impression management to deliberately cultivate a certain relationship with group members. In other words, they take steps to create a favorable, successful impression, recognizing that the perceptions of constituents
determine whether they function as charismatic leaders.

Global Changes and its influence on Team Development

Abstract:
World is undergoing changes every day. Business, Economy, Technology, Health, Environment, People, Stakeholder’s expectations everything is undergoing changes. The dynamics of projects are also changing. Team composition, ambience, ways of collaboration is becoming more agile and need high adaptation. Organizations require continuous process improvement to satisfy and handle the team challenges and sustain for upcoming days. Globally all projects are under pressure of cost reduction and produce high quality deliverables.

The world is currently undergoing a demographic shift that amounts to an earthquake for business. With much of the planet experiencing a youth bulge, rates of mortality and fertility are falling in the developed world, with average life expectancy projected to reach 100 years by the end of the century.
In India, talent is increasingly mobile and thus tough to retain: Employees between the ages of 25 and 34 spend an average of just 2.9 years in a job. In Africa, a surplus of workers is driving immigration to the north (World Economic Forum, 2008). To survive and prosper in the rapidly evolving global marketplace, companies must win the war for talent, innovate rapidly, cultural connection but also, where appropriate, collaborate effectively. Challenges will be with new resource pool and it will be different what we have as on today. Billions of people are connecting through Facebook and social Networking trend is increasing and people are virtually coming closer and closer, billions of people are using cellphone and usages are continuously increasing. Every small device continuously connecting with the internet and trend is increasing. Soon everything will be connected socially, through mobile, through internet and soon remotely we can control every digital device, which is the power of the technology bringing soon. Social networking is going to play a significant role in the way team collaborates.
In this challenging scenarios building a strong team, maintaining a high performance team, high collaboration among team members, high cohesiveness among team members is a continuous challenging tasks. Thinking about the project execution with a team in another 10-20 years organization has to be ready with the strategic plan and policy. Plan should address various issues in team development which are upcoming due to various global macro and micro economic changes. People Policy has to change accordingly and organization has to do lot work regarding various factors which will drive those policy maturities.
Introduction:
Alvin Toffler said that information and knowledge will change the world’s political and corporate landscape significantly in
upcoming days. Today because of the Globalization business process has significantly changed the world and the way to
organization do business across geographic location has totally change the people interaction, business
interaction.Competions has increased and business is more transparent now. Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat,
globalization will result in a “flattening” of the world economy, in which all competitors will have equal opportunities. Due to
the continuously changing landscape, the characteristics that define a successful company will be different in future than
they are now.it will have its own effect the way team members interact with each other to achieve a common mission.
With the world’s population growing and with resources heading in the opposite direction, there could be severe pressure on
access to oil, gas, or water. Project will be on increasing resource availability for sustenance, skills require, technology
requirement, expertise require for those area will be maximum.
Any global marketing strategy, that is—in the words of Peter Drucker (1999: 50)—’any commitment of present resources to
future expectations’, has to start with taking stock of these changes. It would be impractical to list them all.
Many people are connected through Facebook and same trend is increasing and we are coming closer and closer, many
people are using cellphone and usages in increasing. Every small devices and continuously connected with the internet and
trend is increasing. Soon everything will be connected socially, through mobile, through internet and soon remotely we can
control every digital device, which is the power of the technology bringing soon.
Main body:
Team and team work, team bonding all related to a common Mission, a common goal, a common vision which is a must to
build and solid team. Team challenges will increase the moment common mission is missing and business environments
changes, cultural changes, environment changes, geo-political changes.
Good corporate citizenship will also attract customers, especially if such citizenship underpins business models themselves.
In short, worldwide markets reward swift and agile companies, and those that win the race for talent and customers must be
responsive to both. To be truly responsive, corporations must be good as well as great.
In 2030, the world could be facing intense pressure on resources, a big shift in global power, and a completely different way
of doing global business. These aren’t things that we can just deal with when they crop up. We need to start thinking about
tomorrow today.
Let us look into PEST analysis, which is most commonly measures a market, market potential and situation, particularly
indicating growth or decline, and thereby market attractiveness, business potential, and suitability of access – market
potential and ‘fit’ in other words.
Political:
• Improved macroeconomic policies
• Political situation in Middle East & African countries
• Increasing influence of China and India
• Increase in Foreign Direct Investments (FDI)
• Stricter environmental norms for carbon footprint
• Strong international and inter-governmental co-operation
Economic:
• Globalization 2.0
• Scarcity of natural resources
• Rising prices
• Global economic climate
• Rate of population growth in developing countries

Social:
• Increased average education level
• Large middle class in developing countries
• Aging population in developed countries
• Virtual social networks as proxy to physical contact
• Increased collaboration due to global networks
• Increasing wealth and ageing population
will result in a migration of the rich to
warmer climates
Technological:
• Computer technology in improving
• Internet connectivity and capacity
• R&D Centers in developing countries
• Advances in materials, manufacturing processes
• Rise in capital expenditures
Team challenges will vary based on the below factors.
Most of the work will be influence by the PEST factor. Same will change the team development, team activities in those
geographical areas.
The challenges we face today are different to those of the past and call for different responses. Whether we look at relative
demographic and economic decline, climate change or energy shortages the challenges can only be properly understood and
tackled when situated in a regional and global context.
Various factors drive the team and it has many challenges based on the macro and micro economic scenarios. Future team
challenges will be based on the business, culture, age of the team members, health of the team member’s many other factors
which depicts in various graphs.
Digital world and challenges:
The sky’s the limit. Research and development will go forward as a public private partnership in increasing by tapping
technology. World is becoming digitized day by day. Information, communication will be more in the fingertips to make
decision in upcoming days. Team members, manager have to maximize the technology utilization and be ready with the
exploration of the digitized world and create a environment to be highly productive culture. Technology will change the
speed of decision making. New type Team challenges will appear and current issues like collaboration among global team
members will change.
Response time:
Technology has made significant changes in our life and it also changing our behavior over a period of time. Smart phone,
smart gadgets, smart devices which has changed the way we interact, the way we connect, collaborate, execute tasks all has
changed. In future expectation will be high in terms of commitment and communication. This will also require our creativity
in leading our staff to a high performing team who also live in fragmented lives. Response time for each activities will has to
be less.
Execution cycle time for business:
Business is changing, technology is changing, stakeholders, shareholders expectation is changing based on this strategy, and
actions will change. Team members have to be agile and highly adaptive in upcoming days.
Innovation, innovation:
to create process, policy for innovative culture. Team members will have to work hard to be more innovative in upcoming
days. As organizations are coming closer and closer to do the effective business, competition will be high. Only sustenance
factor other than default factor like quality and cost is Innovation through which value generation.
All project, process, product needs to apply innovation for sustainenace. The organization will have
Working in Virtual environment:
Over the years, international companies developed their organization and we see more and more virtual team management
happening. Team will be virtual working from all global location in the world from home, from office, from car, from
different background and culture connected in one common meeting, with common purpose. With the carbon challenges we
are facing, we will see more and more expensive in traveling. This will require our capability to survive in virtual
environment. Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube etc. All provided a platform of virtual social community. However we as leaders
need to ensure to develop the trust, belief among our staff, influence and lead effectively. Organization need to ensure the
productivity and high performance in a virtual environment. Organization need to care for virtual team members who does
seek for coaching and mentoring on a day to day basis. This is indeed a challenge for us all. Collaboration among different
culture understands virtual environment need to ensure through various plans.
Global Citizenship:

The force of globalization has shaped our business and our world become more flat. Unlike our parent, the challenges we are
facing are the global talent pool, 24/7 operations. As the future leader, how do you lead and inspire such global talent team?
Do you have the right intellectual capital- the right master knowledge over the others? Do you have the proper emotional
capital – developed your resilience in leadership? Do you have enough social capital – understanding the culture and
developed the network? All in all, it is crucial to increase our international exposure to develop all the capabilities above.

Resourcing:

It is now officially declared that India has passed China, excluding Hong Kong, as the most populous nation in the world
according to the UN. The two nations “met” at 1.448 billion people each. The population of India is estimated to increase to
1.593 billion by year 2050.
Availability of the resources for right time and right place is required for smooth team setup. Demography play critical role in
team development. Demography will dominate the economy because of the abundant resource pool. Managing team in
Developing countries will be different than developed countries. There will be many polish and raw skill. Competition will be
high. Job security will come down so motivating team will be different, maintaining moral for team members need different.
Demography will create unbalance in team as most of the Asian countries will be economical super power. Knowing Asian
culture will be a advantage to do the business in these countries.
The new competition is between networks rather than single organizations:
The intensity of today’s competition, the increasing expectations of consumers, and the quickening speed of technological
change are leading to shorter product life cycle. This means that the window for recuperating investments in research and
development, and pursuing global dominance, is narrowing. In order to compete organizations form alliances
with other market players, either on a temporary project-based footing or through something more permanent, such as a joint
venture. The new competition is and will be increasingly between networks rather than single organizations.
Entrepreneur ship:
Entrepreneurial spirit is deeply embedded in the Indian business community. Eight in ten of the respondents said that they
believed that people could get ahead through hard work
Business start-ups in India in 2007 numbered 20,000 and the evidence for India’s economic optimism is vast. More number
of startup we have more job opportunity will be available, competition will be high, innovation will be high. Expectation
from team will be different. Managing team in startup and large established organization is different where all process are ready to use.
Economy:
Based on the PEST analysis the world’s business economy is shifting towards developing nation. West side economic super power is slowly moving towards east side. Asian economy will play significant role. The expectations from the team members are very high. It require each every team members demonstrate leadership parameters. Many new projects from different business area will come up to support the growth.
Family:
Various aspects of economic burden are associated with an aging family members.Family plays a critical role in individual’s mind. To become highly productive peace of mind has to be there. In upcoming days we will have more and more team members as aging person. Team members need to know how to interact and handle emotions with all age group people.
Health:
unhealthy diets, population growth and sedentary lifestyles. When most of the people sick in team , how can organization maintain the committed date. When Organization pay most of the insurance or costs of ill-health increases than how
organization can maintain profit mergin. The situation will be worse in upcoming days.
New statistics suggest that more than 370 million people worldwide today suffer from diabetes. The numbers have doubled over the last 30 years. Much of this increase has taken place in developed countries, due to ageing, obesity,
Process:
Organizational policy and process towards employee will have to undergo changes to sustain and maintain a productive team.
Process will change as the project executions ambient will changes. It is a continuous improvement steps. Style of work, technology to deal with , culture factors all these factors will trigger the current to process to change. It will change
slowly.More and more virtual team organization have , Organization has to rely on team members influencing ability.Process guidelines has to instruct people’s thinking process.
Culture:
Culture plays a significant role in team collaboration. The Organization origin and location of the organization play critical role for team formation and execution of the project. When team members are working as virtual team, it is more important that team meet with each other and share cultural difference.
Transparency:
Communication, information sharing, vision and mission sharing, frequent updates about the company’s road map all these information encourage team members to aware and increase bonding. Process transparency is also critical, information has to be free flow and from top to bottom so that all the team members got the right message.in up coming days when globalization, virtualization, and extreme digitization going help team members to get the information much more faster.
Organization need to come up with security policy for information free flow.
Business:
Team challenges vary based on the project execution factors. For IT project execution, Government project execution, public- private project execution, project execution in oil and natural gas exploration , project executed in infrastructure development all different types of the business has its own people management challenges.

Mostly policies are different for different business and the kind of skills project require. Government policy, standards, norms, country where business is happening plays an critical role at team member level.
Conclusion:
With accelerating advances in technology as well as rapid changes in the political, social and economic landscapes of the world, long-term planning will be crucial for a organization’s continued success. Team management in upcoming decades will
be fun and challenging and require contieous up gradation. Manager has to be creative to connect with the team. Team formation and build a sustainable work culture will be driven by many above mentioned factors which every individual has
to know and take care.

Team building, sustenance and high performance within organization require lot of process establishment and continuous improvement. Good understanding about the team issues, business line and other organization factors need to consider while preparing a plan for future team management. Challenges will be different but it will not be a surprised to anybody as teams and members are evolving based on the circumstance, technology and other factors which is driving today’s world.

Service industry will play critical role in future project. If the quality, creativity and price are all good, what other aspects will
influence the decision of the customer? It is the service.
it is still difficult for workers and entrepreneurs to access and understand the rules and regulations which apply to taking up employment or starting a new business. This approach has to change with proper government policy and technological advancement has to smooth this process.

What makes Employees Happy?

Every individual wants to use his talent and wants to do something for this world good or bad. By doing that he/she feels satisfaction. Maslow said that each person has the same needs and that we all spend each day satisfying one or more of those needs.

PHYSICAL:
Need to satisfy hunger, thirst, sleep etc:
Getting our first job, struggling to get the job…..
PHYSICAL:
Need to be secure + safe, out of danger:
Our next jump for higher salary! Branded organization, , getting more salary, knowing more and more about the job, domain,
EMOTIONAL:
Need to belong and love and be loved:
Ready to settle down in life, want buy car, house, spouse, friends…outing..
EMOTIONAL:
Need to achieve to be recognized
Getting promotion as executive vice president, got reward in seminar for writing a patent
SELF FULFILLING:
Need for self-actualization.
Continuously contributing to the society through experience, knowledge, innovating idea, mentoring team members

Where are you in the ladder? What are you doing to climb this ladder? Every individual will climb this ladder in various time frame. How do these needs get satisfied in average job?
Which phase are you? Survival level? Or prestige level? Give it a thought
We are in knowledge age , where our growth sustains more and more we know about the job and learn from the job to climb this hierarchy.

Following are the ten qualities that people want most from their jobs as reported by the public Agenda Foundation, 1983

a) To work for efficient Managers
b) To think for themselves
c) To see the end results of their work
d) To be assigned interesting work
e) To be informed
f) To be listened to
g) To be respected
h) To be recognized for their effort
i) To be challenged
j) To have opportunity for increased skill development
Maslow’s law and all the above 10 points engage employees significantly to their work and they contribute Most.
Employees need to differentiate between Need and Greed.
The most basic needs are survival and Security.Once these needs are met nurturing needs (belonging and Love) are at the second level. When first two levels of needs are satisfied ,individual seeks opportunity to grow, develop and achieve in their field.Individual who are functioning at the survival level they tend to be Negative while those who are performing at growth level they tend to positive.

How can we Minimize the Quality Assurance Cost?

Do we need an audit to certify our artifacts are at expected quality level? When can we minimize those costs?

Business value for the vendor as well as for the customer depends on the quality. Software quality assurance (SQA) is an important factor in the development of the software quality, and followed throughout the software acquisition life cycle.

Software development and control processes should include quality assurance. Inspection and testing are used for defect detection and removal. Software design inspection saves on average 44% of the testing cost and code inspection save on
average 39% of the cost. Quality cost analysis shows the companies send between 50% to 80% of their development effort on testing, and the cost of analytical SQA is significant. Many estimates say that analytical SQA constitutes about 50% of the total development costs.

To save costs for SQA, we need to optimize its usage in the development process with the aim to reduce costs and increase benefits.

Prevention costs are “the costs of all activities specifically designed to prevent
poor quality in products and services”

Appraisal costs are “the costs associated with measuring, evaluating, or auditing
products or services to assure conformance to quality standards and performance requirements”

Internal failure costs are “the costs resulting from products or services not
conforming to requirements or customer/user needs (which) occur prior to
delivery or shipment [. . .] to the customer”

External failure costs are “the costs resulting from products or services not
conforming to requirements or customer/user needs (which) occur after delivery
or shipment of the product, and during or after furnishing of a service to the
customer”

Attitude!! Attitude!! Attitude defines our Altitude not our Aptitude….which directly link to employees high Productivity

Somebody quotes: “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Attitudes are thoughts that we have accepted as true and that lead us to think, feel, or act positively or negatively toward a person, idea, or event. They represent an emotional readiness to behave in a particular manner.

Our values, those beliefs, and preferences we feel are important serve as a foundation for our attitudes.

Attitude is often synonyms with self-esteem. People formulate a powerful first impression of our within fist 12-30 seconds.Judgement is happening from physical posture, appearance. Each of us lives our life according to a unique set of core values.

One of the most significant differences between high and low achievers is choice of attitude. People who go through life with a positive attitude are more likely to achieve their personal and professional goals. People who filter their daily experiences through a negative attitude find it difficult to achieve contentment or satisfaction in any aspect of their lives.
Jack Welch, the former chairman and CEO of General Electric, believes that an organization needs people with “positive energy” and needs to get rid of those people who inject the workforce with “negative energy”—even if they are high performers.

Many organizations have discovered the link between workers’ attitudes and profitability. This discovery has led to major changes in the hiring process. Employers today are less likely to assume that applicants’ technical abilities are the best indicators of their future performance. They have discovered that the lack of technical skills is not the primary reason why most new hires fail to meet expectations.

It is their lack of interpersonal skills that counts. Happy employees are productive employees
People who are self-motivated are inclined to set their own goals and monitor their own progress toward those goals. Their
attitude is
“I am responsible for this job.” They do not need a supervisor hovering around them making sure they are on task and accomplishing what they are supposed to be doing.

Many find ways to administer their own rewards after they achieve their goals. Employers often retain and promote those employees who take the initiative to make their own decisions, find better ways of doing their jobs, read professional publications to learn new things, and monitor the media for advances in technology.
Optimistic thoughts give rise to positive attitudes and effective interpersonal relationships. When you are an optimist, your coworkers, managers, and—perhaps most important—your customers feel your energy and vitality and tend to mirror your behavior

If you feel the need to become a more optimistic person, you can spend more time visualizing yourself succeeding.
Monitor your self-talk and discover whether or not you are focusing on the negative aspects of the problems and disappointments in your life, or if you are looking at them as learning experiences that will eventually lead you toward your personal and professional goals. Try to avoid having too much contact with pessimists, and refuse to be drawn into a group of negative thinkers who see only problems, not solutions. Attitudes can be contagious.

An attitude is nothing more than a personal thought process. We cannot control the thinking that takes place in someone else’s mind, but we can sometimes influence it. And sometimes we can’t do that either, so we have to set certain rules of behavior. Some organizations have come to the conclusion that behavior that offends or threatens others must stop.

When employees have positive attitudes, job performance and productivity are likely to improve You are constantly placed in new situations with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Each time you go to a new school, take a new job, get a promotion, or move to a different neighborhood, you may need to alter your attitudes to cope effectively with the change when events, such as a layoff, are beyond your control, you can accept this fact and move on. It is often said that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.
Most companies realize that an employee’s attitude and performance cannot be separated. When employees have negative attitudes about their work, their job performance and productivity suffer.

Excellent work + Poor Attitude = Poor Productivity

Excellent IQ+ Excellent Work + Poor Attitude = Poor Productivity

When employees work with right mindset output increase.

“Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude. “
