To successfully set into the new organization managers has to know the business environment beyond their own job description.
How to understand about the industry, key success factor, the competition, future challenges.

checklist to ensure that manager are progressing their goals.....

a) Understand the organization
b) know the Business operation model
c) understand the competition
d) analyze the impact on the business
e)  understand other business in the same organization

- Look for the monitor in the organization who is expert into that domain who can guide you, bring you into certain level.Ask your manager to help you to get that person.
- Look for the organization history, track, how the organization has evolved
- Get the Systemic view / big picture for the organization.Get all the parts , how they connect with each other.
- Build a social network at you organization. Learn from them , ask right questions and note those points.
- Read through all the possible way to know more about your domain, business , competition in the market and discuss.
- walk extra mile for the organization, take up additional work to know about the organization
- Volunteer various activities wherever possible , connect with the people and grab all the opportunity where you can learn and exercise and demonstrate your talent.
- Get to know the product managers, sales organization through them you will be able to connect and know your product and customer base.
- if you are not from the same area where your organization operates, take up classes or seminars , subscribe to papers/magazine
- Take feedback continuously to peer and other team member and improve upon
